Project Description

Into the Depths is a multiplayer arcade game made with a custom controller. The goal of this project was to research the market and competition and to describe the value proposition of our game.

Created in Microsoft Visual Studio, the game was made for a school assignment project which spanned 2 weeks.

This project was unique for me because we were assigned in groups instead of allowing us to make our own. This was done to emulate the idea that we can't always choose with whom we are going to work with. This project was made with a multidisciplinary team of 6 people:

- Three artists

- One designer

- Two engineers

My Contributions

During the 2 weeks working on this project, I was the sole designer of the team that was assigned to me. Because of this, I needed to do most of the design thinking process while trying to communicate everything to and with my team. Luckily my team was and I worked greatly together and it was very doable.

My contributions:

Research: Research was a big part of this project, as we not only had to research our target audience, but also research our value proposition on the market. I looked into the market and how we could create value and interest in our product.

Ideation: This was a collective effort with the whole team where we sat down and think of fun mechanics fitting for an arcade game. We also needed to make sure that the game could be played on a custom made controller.

Game design: When the concept was established I finetuned the gameplay while trying to add depth by suggesting and introducing mechanics such as difficulty, power-ups and hazards.

SCRUM master: To get everyone on the same page in terms of the tasks that need to be done and when they need to be done, we used Trello to properly plan out our development process. I was in charge of updating the Trello and making sure everyone was doing their job.
